How to create a blog that people love
One of the craziest things I keep seeing is bloggers who spend a lot of time and effort in an attempt to attract new visitors but then give them no reason to stay or come back once they arrive. To me it’s the same no matter what market you’re in, if you want to create a successful site then you need to invest in your content and design, there’s no way around it.
There’s nothing worse than when you go to a blog and the latest post on the homepage is from a year ago. To me it pretty much invalidates everything this blogger has to say, just because they clearly don’t care about the blog anymore. You really need to have a new post at least once a week.
At the same time it’s not enough just to have new posts, they have to be up to date on what’s happening your market (whatever your blog is about). If all your posting is generic ideas that could still apply 12 months ago how relevant is your blog to people today? People on the net are obsessed with keeping up to date on what they are interested in, if they can rely on you to be the first to know then success will be yours.
One mistake I see time and again is bloggers overloading their visitors with too much content. Lots of content isn’t necessarily bad but it is when it has no structure. There’s nothing worse than landing on a blog with 40 posts on the homepage, show 5 at most on the index with a most popular posts section at the side to help people find your best work.
Blogging is all about interaction, it’s the only way people can feel they have a real connection with the guy writing the posts. So answer any questions people have in the comments fast, also you can bet if one person has asked the question then there are a hundred more who are thinking it.
